Identification Tip

Forewings are a rich, metallic orange with brown spots and a brown border; the hindwings are brown with orange bands.

What do they eat?

Caterpillars munch on:

  • Common Sorrel
  • Sheep’s Sorrel

Adults feed on a range of flowers including:

  • Common Fleabane (favourite)
  • Daisy
  • Dandelions
  • Hawkbits
  • Yarrow (Achillea)

Where does it spend the winter?

Caterpillars spend the winter hibernating on the underside of leaves of the foodplant, occasionally feeding if the weather is mild enough.
